What is a ball?

A ball is a round part that is used to facilitate linear or rotary motion. Balls can be made from various materials, including:

  • metals (chrome steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, bronze, brass, aluminum, tungsten)
  • plastics (nylon, delrin, teflon, torlon)
  • ceramics

They are generally spherical. Balls are commonly used in bearings, valves, connectors, pumps, etc. They are also used in the food, aeronautical, chemical, military and cosmetic industries.

What are the different types of balls?

  • Metal balls: Metal balls are mainly steel balls, they are the most common type of ball. They are used in bearings, valves and linear guides. These products can also be offered in stainless steel to resist corrosion and temperature variations.
  • Plastic ball: Plastic balls are less used than steel balls. They are used in bearings and industrial applications.
  • Ceramic ball: Ceramic balls are the least common, yet they are known for their strength and lightness. These products also generate little friction. They are used in high precision bearings and in the medical industry.

What are the advantages of using balls?

Balls have a number of advantages, including:

  • They reduce friction between moving parts
  • They can be used to create friction (as in the case of rolling balls)
  • They can be used to transfer a load from one point to another

How to choose a ball ?

When choosing a ball, there are two main factors to consider. These factors are :

  • The material of which the product is made
  • The size, especially the external diameter of the product
